Do you currently collect baseball cards and football cards? Did you just find your old collection of basketball cards collecting dust in your garage? Card collectibles is a fun hobby that can actually end up being quite lucrative. It may be hard to believe, but those old cards that you hung onto might be worth a decent amount of money.

If you are curious about what these items might be worth, you are not alone. We get a fair amount of people in our store wondering how they can tell what their cards are worth. Our team at Chalfont Sports Connection, located at 414 Town Center in New Britain, PA, is your resource for learning how to tell what your sports cards are worth.

What Kind of Cards Are Worth the Most?

As you peruse your collection, you might be asking yourself what kind of cards are worth the most. The answer to that question is not a simple one. There are a lot of factors to consider when you determine the worth of a card.

Whether you have baseball, football, basketball, or hockey cards, the ones you have featuring the best players are a good place to start for ones that might be worth the most. For example, Bryce Harper’s cards are going to be worth more than David Hale’s cards.

Another factor that may determine the worth of your card is its condition. Most collectors keep their cards in sleeves inside of binders to protect them. You’ve probably heard the term “mint condition” when it comes to card collectibles. When determining the condition of your cards, inspect the following:

  • Is the card centered? Cards, where the picture and lettering are in the center, are more likely to get you a mint condition rating.
  • How are the corners? Corners that are in pristine condition, meaning they are not folded, torn, or frayed, are common signs that your card is in mint condition. The corners should be sharp.
  • What does the surface of the card look like? A mint condition card is glossy and free of scratches, indentations, and stains. These types of issues lead to a severe drop in value.
